Fav Lyric: "To everyone out there who's a little different, I say damn a magazine these are God's fingerprints." - Brother Ali, "Forest Whitiker"
To everyone who hasn't heard the song Forest Whitiker, you should check it out, it'll just make you feel good. Also you should check out his promotional video and song for his upcoming album "Us." You can download the song for free: http://www.rhymesayers.com/news.php#newsId_1808
Wack Lyric: "I dumb down for my audience, and doubled my dollas. They criticize me for it yet they all yell holla. If skills sold, truth be told, i'd probably be lyrically Talib Kweli. Truthfully I wanna rhyme like Common Sense, but I did five mil, I aint been rhymin like Common since." -Jay Z "Moment Of Clarity"
Now these aren't bad lyrics. It's the message that just disgusts me. Basically he's saying "I SOLD OUT but everybody still loves me." He's trying to tell us that he's good enough to rhyme like Kweli or Common but he makes more money dumbing his lyrics down so he does that. I highly doubt that he really is this skilled and has dumbed down lyrics only because he wants to, and even if it is true, why dont hip hop fans everywhere protest this shit and demand a higher quality? Instead, he is regarded as a legend and to some the best rapper alive. How can he be the best rapper alive when he admits to "dumbing down" and admits he is no Common or Talib Kweli? The line "If skills sold I'd be Talib Kweli" says point blank that I AM NOT AS GOOD AS TALIB KWELI yet he has another song on the same album that claims him to be the best rapper alive. Not even close.

Some people are so used to fake they don't recognize real when they experience it.

Lyrics of the Day 7/30: Immortal Technique/Young Jeezy
Fav Lyric: "I'll burn an orphanage just to bring heat to you bastards" -Immortal Technique "Industrial Revolution"
Real clever line if ya get it.
Wack Lyric: "I'm a T-R-A-P-S-T-R, got the streets on lock big shoes on the car, and she likes it."-Young Jeezy "Trap Star"
Young Jeezy: You sure this is cool? I mean i completely spelled the word wrong in the chorus.
Label Exec: For sure man it sounds cool plus people listenin to this are probly too dumb to realize its spelled wrong anyway. It'll be a hit trust me.
Young Jeezy: Alright, fuck it, as long as I get paid I don't care what I say.

Lyrics of the Day 7/29 Styles of Beyond/Lil Wayne
Fav Lyric: "It's a thin line between a chipped tooth and a fang" -Styles of Beyond "Mr. Brown"
Styles of Beyond is a very nice duo that you may have heard from some Fort Minor songs. The problem is they seem to fit into the category of super talented MCs without much to say (on their own shit that is, cuz they got some deep songs with Fort Minor.) This is a nice line, though, creatively saying there's a difference between being dangerous and just hurt enough to look and feel like you can do some damage (my interpretation.)
Wack Lyric: "My leather so soft, my top so soft, I'll prolly have it off, These n***** so soft, and I go so hard. Bitch I go so hard." -Lil Wayne "Leather So Soft"
I wonder how long it took for him to come up with that, especially rhyming all of those same words. Lil wayne falls into the category of nontalented MCs with absolutely nothing to say. Listening to that whole song actually made me a little dumber I think.

Lyrics of the Day 7/28 The Crest/P.Diddy
Fav Lyric: "Break free of convention/make the distinction/ between being driven and riding along for the sake you have no direction." -The Crest "Back to the Basics"
The Crest is a very talented duo from Madison, WI and I love this line, it's basically saying are you doing this because you really want it or because you got nothin else and everybody else is doin it?
Wack Lyric: http://www.spinner.com/2007/03/27/the-worst-lyrics-ever-no-4/ -P. Diddy
I always thought this rhyme was completely retarded so when I saw it on this Worst Lyrics Ever list I had to post it. Pretty cool song tho.

Lyrics of the Day 7/27 Atmosphere/50 Cent
Fav Lyrics: "I wear my scars like the rings on a pimp. I live life like the captain of a sinking ship." - Atmosphere "GodLovesUgly"
I love Atmosphere, and Slug's way of painting emotional pictures like this one makes him so unique.
Wack Lyrics: "They said we couldn't do it, look now I did it. I hopped in the club I'm still sippin the bub. The drama I'm wit it, I get biz ya get it, I be's on that shitted, I split your wittig" -50 Cent "Come And Go"
I don't even know. 50 has rhymed Bub and club about 50 million times in his career, and now he's just making up more words that have nothing to do with anything. Terrible.

Lyrics of the Day 7/24 Immortal Technique/Lil Wayne
Fav Lyric: "The bling bling era was cute, but its about to be done/I'll leave you full eclipse (of clips) like the moon blockin the sun/My metaphors are dirty like herpes but harder to catch/like an escape tunnel in prison I started from scratch" -Immortal Technique "Industrial Revolution"
Just some nice similes and metaphors from Immortal Technique.
Wack Lyric: "I got money on money on money on money on top of more money on top of my shit like flies" -Lil Wayne "American Superstar"
Just another beautiful line from the "world's greatest rapper." What's amazing is that there's people out there that probably find this line amazing. I wonder what he got paid for this terrible guest verse on this song. Aah the benefits of self promotion and media obsessions.

Every day I will post a favorite lyric or line: something that is clever, memorable, meaningful, powerful, funny, or just something that seems cool to me, and I'll include a little interpretation of it. They don't have to be hip hop lyrics, either. Also, for fun, I will usually post a terrible lyric under it just so we all can laugh at it and be amazed it made into a song. Comment on this with some favorite/terrible lyrics of your own if you like.

Lyrics of the Day 7/23: Lupe Fiasco/50 Cent
Fav Lyric: "If you die tell em that you played my game. I hope your bulletholes become mouths to say my name." -Lupe Fiasco "Put You On The Game"
This song is just so powerful and flows so well and ends on such a memorable line (this one.) The song meaning is up for interpretation but it is believed to be a song about the devil/evil and this last line is basically telling if evil is the death of you, it killing you can make it even more powerful, or something along those lines. Thats whats so great about Lupe is you can take the line for what you may but you know it is great nonetheless.
Wack Lyric: "Respect come from admiration and fear. You can admire me or you can catch one in your wig." -50 Cent "I'll Still Kill"
I was looking for a quick wack lyric so i immediately picked a random song from Curtis and found a shit ton of them, this one coming first. First of all, how is "wig" supposed to rhyme with "fear"? Theres no way it can, even if you twist it. The rhyme starts out pretty cool, with a nice statement "Respect come from admiration and fear" then finishes with a line that borders on "was that a serious line or is he trying to be funny?" It was serious.

Fav Lyric- "There's 8 million ways to stretch words around beats, and 6 million rappers be sharin the same three, but me, takin the time to be creative with mine, touchin your soul til I see it in your face when I rhyme." - Brother Ali "When The Beat Comes In"
Just a creative way to say you are creative I guess, and I agree that most rappers use the same formula when making songs. Brother Ali has tons of great lines like this.
Terrible Lyric- "I know Pablo Noriega, the real Noriega, he owe me a hundred favors." Rick Ross -"Hustlin'"
First of all, there is no Pablo Noriega, its Manuel Noriega, and I doubt Rick Ross knows him since he's as fake as it gets and doesnt even know the dudes first name. Also "he owe me a hundred favors" sounds kinda gay.
