Climate Change: Your Opinion Doesn't Matter

Picture this: You go to a doctor for a check up.  He tells you that you have a life threatening condition that will be fatal if you do not change your life soon, and receive treatment ( which is expensive).  You are skeptical, so you visit 10 other doctors, all world renowned specialists in your condition.  9 more of them confirm your doctor's grim diagnosis, and one cannot confirm or deny it: he's just not sure.  Now, instead of proceeding with the treatment/changes to save your life and and improve your health, you decide that you don't "believe" those nine experts, and the uncertainty of ONE expert is enough for you.  You have other things to worry about in your life as well, like money, so to you it's more important to concentrate on that.  You completely disregard your fatal diagnosis, and laugh it off as a crazy theory when asked about it.

Does this sound ridiculous?

This is how I feel with numerous people I talk to about global climate change, as well as many politicians who dismiss it altogether, focusing on "more important things."  I keep hearing "I don't believe in climate change.  Are you telling me I'm wrong?"   YES.  I am telling you that you are wrong.  You are not qualified to have an opinion in this matter.  This is not a religion.  There are facts, there are studies, choosing to ignore them because you don't want to face reality is not acceptable.  You do not know more than the people whose job it is to study this.  We have no choice but to believe their results, and the results clearly state that human activity is VERY LIKELY the cause to global climate change, and the consequences are potentially catastrophic.  If it is the economy that you are solely concerned about, do you understand the negative effects these environmental consequences will have on it?  The earth and its well being is all we have, we need to stop being so small minded and realize that its well being affects EVERYTHING in our lives, and if we disregard it, all of those things will suffer, including the issues that we put ahead of environmental concerns.

I hear people say that they don't believe in climate change because of how cold their winters have been recently, or something like that.  Do your realize how ridiculous this is?  What do you think climate change is?  Scientists are not solely studying ONE person and the temperature outside your house for two years.  This is a global thing, involving more than just temperature, over long periods of time.

One last hypocrisy I'd like to address is the commitment to our children/young people of this world.  Who do you think all of this affects?  I've seen plenty of people provide love and care to their grandchildren/children/young people, and care about them more than anything, but totally disregard climate change.  Your grandchildren will feel the brunt of these effects.  If you care about the future of our children, you should care about the well being of the world they live in.  People and the environment are not two separate things, they work together, and the well being of one will directly reflect the well being of another, sooner or later.

That is my rant.  Please don't shape your opinions based on what you WANT to believe.  Shape your opinions based on what's real.

I wrote this very quickly, excuse me for its lack of professionalism.

This from Nasa:

Certain facts about Earth's climate are not in dispute:
  • The heat-trapping nature of carbon dioxide and other gases was demonstrated in the mid-19th century.2 Their ability to affect the transfer of infrared energy through the atmosphere is the scientific basis of many JPL-designed instruments, such as AIRS. Increased levels of greenhouse gases must cause the Earth to warm in response.
  • Ice cores drawn from Greenland, Antarctica, and tropical mountain glaciers show that the Earth’s climate responds to changes in solar output, in the Earth’s orbit, and in greenhouse gas levels. They also show that in the past, large changes in climate have happened very quickly, geologically-speaking: in tens of years, not in millions or even thousands.3

Church

Stand up, sit down, stand up again
Morse Code sent to God, are you listening?
He must have been too busy fixing other shit
No call, no response shows the opposite
We confess to the man who was faceless
I still do the same but to thousands of strangers
Went through some changes, some said I'm faithless
'Cause I replaced the altar with a basement
I often fought the explanation of where people go when their bodies let go of the soul
Does it just turn cold?
Or do we get judged and told where to go?
And if so, how the fuck would you know if nobody came back and said I'm telling you, bro?
I could never get past the shit that was spit out the pastor's lips
And the rapper's started making more sense
I guess that's the reason that some people cringe when they kids get a hold of my shit
If the grip of a God is insistent on not questioning if he truly exists
No wonder that I got caught up in the music it filled my spirit to the brim, amen
Motha fucker

Writing a Song...

Do you think a song is better and more true to the heart when you spent weeks and weeks writing it, or when it just comes to you and you pump it out?  I've had success with both... and failure with both.  Trying to find the best process.

Lupe on the music business

What kind of people does the music business attract?
Lupe: It destroys people. People come out of the music business fucked up because you have to become so numb to things and you have to do things completely against your morals. You are putting out the most negative shit in the world. I am specifically speaking about urban music departments. You have families and little kids and you are putting out records about people getting killed, people selling massive amounts of dope and all this negative crazy shit and you think that’s cool? And you are celebrating it like you are not having an impact on society? To them, it just becomes a job. It’s like the dude who just makes Coca-Cola or the guy who makes gas and doesn’t think about the environment. The things that you see specifically in the music business, it’s so visceral and so fucked up the things that people do and the things that people go through and the integrity and the work is completely stripped away so you don’t know who wrote what. You don’t know if that person is real. It’s like when you finally meet your hero, you realize he ain’t shit because they had nothing to do with the process. Some people are the greatest people on Earth with good hearts and will get in the studio and make the most negative music in the world for the sake of success. That’s what the music business does to you. That’s what capitalism does to you. When I look at how the product we create is the soundtrack to people’s lives, this shit is everywhere. I hate the music business with all my heart. I hate this shit. In the midst of doingLasers, I was in Buffalo, New York and I called my partner and was like, ‘I quit. I can’t do this shit no more.’ Not even specifically because of what was going with Lasers. I’ve been in the music business for 10 years so I’ve seen all type of shit. You damn near 30 and you look back and are like, What the fuck am I doing? This business is bananas. It rips families apart, rips relationships apart, just destroys shit. You find yourself in some hotel room in the middle of nowhere and you’re like, What the fuck am I doing here? I was like, ‘I’m done.’ He was like, ‘C’mon man.’ Pep talk this. The only reason why I’m still in the music business is my partner Chill.

Sounds great!  not

Reasons...

They say everything happens for a reason. It doesn't. At least not some mysterious reason that makes everything that occurs in this world perfect and rational. Get off your ass and MAKE things happen. Then you'll have your reason. And everything else that you can't control, don't worry about it.

Words I live by.
